Firefighters' Pension Schemes

SPPA are responsible for the regulation of the two Firefighters' Pension Schemes in Scotland and this role includes introducing new legislation that meets the policy intentions of the Scottish Government.  

Scottish Teachers' Superannuation Scheme

  The STSS is a contributory scheme administered by the SPPA on behalf of the Scottish Ministers.

NHS Superannuation Scheme (Scotland)

  SPPA administers the National Health Service Superannuation Scheme (Scotland) on behalf of Scottish Ministers.  

Local Government Pension Scheme

SPPA are responsible for regulating the Scheme which is administered by fund administering authorities, of which there are 11 in Scotland.  

Police Pension Schemes

SPPA are responsible for the regulation of the two Police Pension Schemes in Scotland and this role includes introducing new legislation that meets the policy intentions of the Scottish Government.

The Scottish Public Pensions Agency (SPPA) is an Agency of the Scottish Government. Its principal role is to administer the pensions, premature retirement and injury benefits schemes for employees of the National Health Service in Scotland (NHSSS) and for members of the Scottish Teachers' Superannuation Scheme (STSS).

The Agency also has responsibility for providing policy advice to Ministers on public sector pensions for these schemes plus those for Local Government, Police and Fire; for developing the regulations for each of these schemes; and for determining appeals made by members of these schemes. It also provides a pension calculation service for the Legal Aid Board for Scotland and the Scottish Parliament.
