NHS Choice Exercise
New arrangements for the NHS Pension scheme were introduced on 1 April 2008. The new 2008 section has a normal pension age of 65 years with some other benefits which may better suit some members.
Existing members will have the option to transfer to the new 2008 section and convert all of their existing service to pensionable service in the new 2008 section.
Staff who were members of the Superannuation scheme before 1 April 2008 and still members on 1 October 2009 will be eligible to participate in the Choice exercise.
The main Choice Exercise started in January 2010 and the majority of eligible members were sent a Choice Information pack to their home address during February 2010. A small number of packs remain to be issued during March & April 2010. Members who have not received a Choice pack by 30 April 2010 should contact SPPA by e-mail or telephone using the contacts given below.
Members have 4 months to reply. If no reply is received the member will remain in the 1995 section.
Members with any practitioner service during their career will be handled separately. The timetable for the issue of Choice information packs to the members is not yet finalised but will not start before April 2010.
