Local Government Pension Scheme

SPPA are responsible for regulating the Scheme which is administered by fund administering authorities, of which there are 11 in Scotland.  

Police Pension Schemes

SPPA are responsible for the regulation of the two Police Pension Schemes in Scotland and this role includes introducing new legislation that meets the policy intentions of the Scottish Government.

NHS Superannuation Scheme (Scotland)

  SPPA administers the National Health Service Superannuation Scheme (Scotland) on behalf of Scottish Ministers.  

Firefighters' Pension Schemes

SPPA are responsible for the regulation of the two Firefighters' Pension Schemes in Scotland and this role includes introducing new legislation that meets the policy intentions of the Scottish Government.  

Scottish Teachers' Superannuation Scheme

The STSS is a contributory scheme administered by the SPPA on behalf of the Scottish Ministers.

The Scottish Public Pensions Agency (SPPA) is an Executive Agency of the Scottish Government. Our principal role is to administer the pensions, premature retirement and injury benefits schemes for employees of the National Health Service in Scotland (NHSSS) and for members of the Scottish Teachers’ Superannuation Scheme (STSS).

We also have responsibility for developing and maintaining the regulations covering the NHSSS, STSS, Local Government, Police and Fire pensions schemes in Scotland as well as determining appeals by members of these schemes. We also provide pension administration services to third parties on a contract basis.
