Policy Branch

The role of Policy Branch is to prepare, in accordance with the policies of the UK Government and the Scottish Parliament, the regulations that govern the public service pension schemes, and associated arrangements, for which the Scottish Ministers have regulatory responsibility.

The principal schemes concerned are those for the National Health, teaching, local government, police and fire services in Scotland.  The Branch is responsible for the consideration and determination of questions arising under regulations on which there is a right of appeal to the Scottish Ministers.

Policy Branch also provides advice to the Scottish Government on pension and related arrangements for bodies such as the Scottish Legal Aid Board, the Scottish Agricultural College and Research Institutes and for Members of the Scottish Parliament.

The Branch is responsible for advising and consulting Scottish Government Departments and the Scottish Ministers on general occupational pension policy issues that may impact upon the work of the Government and its associated bodies.
